MACRA/MIPS Updates and Guidance

The Quality Payment Program (QPP) established under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA) will enter its third year in 2019.  CMS has proposed a significant number of changes to the Merit-based Incentive System (MIPS) and to Medicare Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organizations, the Alternative Payment Models that have the highest rate of participation. These modifications will impact well over 600,000 clinicians.  This presentation will review the Final Rule expected to be finalized in early November as well as the anticipated requirements and primary challenges to high performance in the coming year, and include recommendations that will help practices meet their performance goals.

Presenter:  Michael Marron-Stearns

Michael Stearns, MD, CPC, CFPC, is a physician informaticist, certified professional coder (CPC), certified family practice coder (CFPC).  He is the CEO and Founder of Apollo HIT, LLC, an Austin-based company that provides consulting services in the areas of healthcare information technology and compliance.  His company assists organizations with meeting their documentation, coding, EHR optimization and program goals, including their performance in the Merit-based Incentive Payment System and Alternative Payment Models.
